    My guess would be this was taken in either 1914 or 15.

  • Henry and Albert (taken around 1906)
    Brass band music was a huge thing in Salford/Manchester and Henry's family were no exception. Albert went on to play in the Royal Fusiliers band during the war.

  • Henry as a boxer
    At the time of the 1911 census Henry's employment status was "Apprentice To Electrical Engineering Company". My guess is that this picture was taken before the war and it looks to me like it could well have been taken in a workplace as there seems to be electrical equipment around.

  • Letter from PS Ashburner saying Henry was dead
    Notable thing about this is that he got Henry's name wrong :( Transcript 26th July 1916 Dear Mrs Leeming I much regret to tell you that your son Edward was killed in action on July 24th by a shell spilnter. He was a fine fellow and always did his work well. His loss is keenly felt by both myself and his comrades. What makes it so hard is that the Bn. was relieved soon after from the part of the line it had been holding on and off for the past week. I feel that whatever I say will not console you very much for this your sad loss so will bring this short letter to a close. Believe me, Yours very sincerely PS Ashburner 2nd Lt. 8th Kings Own (RL) Reg.
