He eventually served in the 5th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry and later became a Royal Air Force Flying Officer. He was Gazetted to Flight Lieutenant in 1929. In 1918 he married Mary Elizabeth Patterson. Their son Patrick Brian Empson was born in the 3rd quarterr 1919. Patrick Brian Empson died in the September quarter of 1943 and his death was registered in the District of East Glamorgan. He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery.
