Title: Doll in IWM Collections

Description: 'Father Christmas' needlwork doll associated with the First World War service of Lance Corporal Charles James Frampton. Lance Corporal Frampton made this doll whilst recuperating in hospital from injuries he sustained on the Western Front. He later died of wounds and was reportedly buried in Belgium. Various letters, photographs and correspondence are held in the Department of Documents. (Note that a casualty record held by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission relates to one 'Lance Corporal C J Frampton' (service number G/14378) who served in the Middlesex Regiment and who died on 19 August 1917, aged 23, and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France).

Description: A piece of shrapnel (L 2.7cm x W 2.6cm x D 1cm) which wounded Lance Corporal Charles James Frampton during his First World War service on the Western Front. Having been wounded he took up needlework whilst recuperating from his injuries in hospital. He subsequently died of wounds and is buried 'in Belgium'. Various related letters, photographs and correspondence are held in the Department of Documents.
