Title: TENDER MEMORIES.

Description: Reverend Arnold P. Lansdown, Minister of Emanuel Church, Tunbridge Wells gave an address on the 10th anniversary of Armistice Day, which was reported in the newspaper. Concluding remarks: "But he could never forget the day after the Armistice was signed and how he rode back over the devastated fields of Flanders towards Ypres. With him was an officer who was not of a particularly emotional nature. They both passed hundreds of little mounds. Some surmounted by plain wooden crosses and some nameless. They both felt the same deep emotion. There was a break in the officer’s voice as, pointing to hundreds of graves, he said.-“ Padre, before God if we ever let this thing happen again are traitors to these our dead." In those words the officer summed up what the war meant, or should mean. The only memorial worthy of those gallant men was that should keep faith with them."

Description: Text of article: "There was a large and representative congregation at Emmanuel Church (Countess of Huntingdon’s Connection), Tunbridge Wells, last (Thursday) evening for the induction of the new minister, the Rev Arnold P. Lansdown. The Rev. A. J. Naylor, the former minister, conducted the service, assisted by the Rev. J. W. Gregory, of Bournemouth, and Mr. C. B. Lansdown. The new minister stated that he accepted the call to the church, rather than continuing his missionary work abroad, partly because of the death of his father and for other family reasons. His father performed much loyal and devoted service to a church at Leicester and he hoped to worthily follow that example in Tunbridge Wells. "

Title: REV. ARNOLD P. LANSDOWN LEAVING TO BE CONGREGATIONAL MINISTER AT SLOUGH

Description: Short biography: "Mr. Lansdown accepted the call to Emmanuel Church in 1927, and commenced his ministry there on September Z5th in that year. The son of the late Rev. F. Lansdown, of Leicester, he was trained at New College, London, until January, 1915, when he undertook Y.M.C.A. work amongst the troops in France, and was appointed assistant manager for the Y.M.C.A. in the Second Army area. In 1918 he was Commissioned Chaplain to the Forces, and sent to the French and Belgian Front, from where he was later transferred, with the Army, to Cologne. In 1921, Mr. Lansdown went out to China under the London Missionary Society. He was given the charge of 18 Chinese churches in Shanghai, and appointed District Treasurer and Secretary the Mission. After six years he was compelled to hand in his resignation owing to the death bis father, and returned to England in April, 1927. "
