Description: BECK, CHARLES BROUGHTON HARROP, 2nd Lieut, 7th Battn Cheshire Regt (T.F.), only son of the late Charles Harrop Beck, of Upton Priory, near Macclesfield, C.B. (who commanded the 4th Cheshire Regt during the South African War), by his wife, Jessie, youngest daughter of the Rev Clement E Broughton, Rector of Norbury, Derby; born Upton Priory, 14 June 1891; educ Harrow and Pembroke College, Cambridge; volunteered for foreign service after the outbreak of the European War; gazetted 2nd Lieut 7th Cheshire Regt 18 Sept 1914; served with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at the Dardanelles and was shot by a sniper after the landing at Suvla Bay about 15 Aug 1915, and died of his wounds on board the Hospital Ship Euripides two days later - 17 Aug. He married in London 14 June 1913 and had a son, Edward Charles, born 6 April 1914.
