    Lawrence/Laurence Martin photographed in mid-1916 at Marlborough Barracks, Dublin, shortly before his deployment to France. A farm labourer who was passionate about horses, he originally enlisted as a cavalryman in the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, where he was part of the Machine Gun Corps, before later being transferred to the Middlesex Regiment.
