Title: Alternative headstone memorial for Petre L G

Description: Lord Petre, who is remembered on Ingatestone & Fryerning War Memorial (2006), is laid to rest in the family chapel at Thorndon Hall, Thorndon Park, Ingrave, Essex which was the family seat, but this headstone is from Writtle Road Cemetery, Chelmsford. The house is now flats and the grounds include a golf course and country park.

Additional: From reading the IWM letters held, Private William James Martin appears to have been camped at Thorndon Park which is presumably how he met his sweetheart from nearby Herongate. This area is also where in 1903 Vaughan Williams collected some of his first English folk songs, most famously "Bushes and Briars".
