Tombstone of Augustus Blair MayneAt Camberley, Surrey, St Michael's church. Stone inscribed with correct middle name of BLAIR. Insignia at the head of the inscription is for his original Indian Army cavalry regiment, the Central India Horse. Date of death given below.

His talent in this sport derived from his time as an Indian Army cavalry officer with the Central India Horse (also known as "Mayne's Horse" as a member of his family raised and then led this regiment during the Indian Mutiny).Contributed by:

Cavalryman of the Central India Horse c. 1890Painting (by Major AC Lovett) of a soldier in the 1st Battalion Central India Horse, the unit in which Major Augustus Blair Mayne was serving in the late 19th century. The regiment was formed during the Indian Mutiny (1857) by an uncle of Major Mayne's under the name of "Mayne's Horse".

WW1 memorial at the Kildare Street Club, Dublin 2After India, Major Augustus Mayne settled in Dublin, Ireland, where he became active in society as a City of Dublin Orangeman (Cumberland LOL 440). He became a member of Dublin's famous Kildare Street Club (WW1 memorial extract above) which was then "at the heart of the Anglo-Irish Protestant Ascendancy". At his death he was also a member of the Royal St George Yacht Club at Dun Loaghaire.Contributed by:
