Title: Obituary

Description: Mr H G V Mence, formerly honorary surgeon to the West Bromwich and District General Hospital, died on 30 August. He was 83. Harold George Victor Mence was born on 3 December 1894 and educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham. He entered Birmingham Medical School and qualified in 1917, taking the Conjoint diploma and the MB, ChB. In the final he obtained the highest total marks, which earned him the Queen's scholarship, and he also won the Ingleby medal for midwifery..... Even after being fitted with a pacemaker two or three years ago he walked a good deal along the extensive corridors of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He was interested in metalwork and made many beautiful pieces in silver and copper. He was a first-class pianist and his knowledge of music was extensive. Mr Mence will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife and three children
