Title: Ernest Middleton's Certificate Of Exemption 1916

Description: This is Ernest 's Army Reserve B -Voluntarily Attested Man-Certificate Of Exemption from November 1916.This document shows that Ernest was granted an extra period of approximately 2 months to fullfill his business obligations before he would be liable for military service.He must have been called up sometime after 31st January 1917 when his final extension of his exemption from military service (marked on the card) was due to end.

Additional: This document was found amongst the possessions of Ernest Middleton's son Ernest Junior(1917-2000).Ernest Junior was my great uncle.

Additional: This confirms my Great Grandfather's birthplace and approximate age.It also lists his prewar profession and it also includes his married sister Rose,who died shortly after WW1 in 1921.

Title: Birthday message from Ernest to his wife Mary H.

Description: The rear of a WW1 era silk embroidery postcard.It seems very likely that this must have been sent circa Nov 1918.Mary was born 4th November 1891.Love to the kiddies would imply that Eric and Ernest junior were alive.Ernest was born late 1917 so this being a postcard from November 1918 is possible.
