For long service with irreprochable character and conduct. He has served for 19 years and 3 months, and became an Non-commissioned Officer in October 1900. He served with distinction in the South African Campaign and has also served in China. He was mentioned in despatches in the London Gazette of 24.2.17 for valuable services rendered in connection with this war. He has been Regimental Sergeant Major of No 5 Officer Cadet Battalion since its formation in March 1916.
