Additional: A letter to my grandfather from his mother.Written in pencil and dated July 1916, grandad was in the Ypres Salient with the Coldstream Guards, soon to be moved to the Somme where he took part (and was wounded) in the battle of Flers Courcelette.He survived the war and this letter is part of a small collection of photos and artifacts we have from that time.The letter is written in dialect as follows (I have kept the spelling etc.) The Blanche mentioned was grandad's sister.14 Pitt CottagesHassinghamJuly 15 1916My Dear sonJust a Littell note to you wich i trust will meet you in the Best of health as we are all well at present me an Blanche have don our weeden the corn we are picking turneps now i shood just Like you to see us boping up an down the feilds with my go a bout shoos on Blanche donot want eny go about shoos she creep up an down the feild now my Dear George i think i will say fearwell for the present from your Leven Mother
