Additional: Albert was my Grand Uncle, and was the brother of my Grandmother Mary Norbury. Albert was born in Heaton Norris, Stockport, Cheshire/Lancashire in December 1884 to parents Thomas Norbury & Ellen Taylor. He married Matilda Maynard in 1907 at St Mary's Parish Church, Stockport, Cheshire, and they had five children, Thomas, Albert, Frank, John and Edith, the eldest being 9 and the youngest only 2 years old when their father tragically was killed. Before the war Albert worked as a bleacher at Sykes & Co, Bleachworks, Edgeley, Stockport, Cheshire. He was killed in an attack in the later weeks of the Third Battle of Ypres. His company officer later wrote to Mrs Norbury "Your husband was killed by a sniper while trying to get forward with his Lewis gun. We bandaged him up and everything that could be done for him was done but unfortunately without success. The one redeeming feature was that he had very little pain."
