Rifle Butt marker for T Parker's original burial?The butt of a British rifle, likely to be that of Thomas Parker, which is engraved with the service number 17248, surname Parker, a cross and the date 3.7.16. This is the presumed date of death of Thomas Parker no. 17248 on the Somme battlefield. The rifle butt was for sale by a militaria dealer. Our family bought it to preserve it for safekeeping as we are Parkers from Staffordshire too, but not related to this Thomas. It would seem it could have been the original marker made by his comrades for the original burial location of Thomas Parker on the Somme battlefield.Contributed by:
