Title: Obituary letter by Chaplain M. Buchanna 18.6. 1915

Description: Transcription from the original obituary letter in my possession for: Private No. 16923 George Charles Peek 1/5th Northumberland Fusiliers. Written by Army Chaplain M. Buchanna on June 18th 1915. Dear Sir, I am very sorry to have to tell you that your son Pte.Geo. Peek was brought into our Field Ambulance (no.9) very severely wounded yesterday morning and died last night. I saw him and said some prayers with him in which he joined. He then gave me your address and I promised to write. With Sincerest Sympathy M. Buchanna. Chaplain Ps. I shall bury him with the Church Service in the soldier’s graveyard near the Huglan at Ypres and will see that a cross is placed on his grave. (End). The soldier’s graveyard is now Enclosure 2. Bedford House Cemetery, Ypres (Ieper) West Flanders (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium. (George Charles Peek’s grave is, Enclosure 2 IV. A72)

Title: Memorial Scroll

Description: This is a memorial scroll which has a space in the center for the newspaper obituary to Private No 16923 George Charles Peek 1st Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers. The newscutting gives the enclosure details for his grave (enclosure 2. IV. A72) where he is buried at Bedford House Cemetery Ypres, Belgium. The original scroll is very creased and stained, this digital enhanced version is my own work.

Title: Roll of Honour

Description: My own digital facsimile of the Roll of Honour plaque naming the members of the Northumberland Street Missions 'Men's Holy Hour' who died during WW1. Including: Private No. 16923 George Charles Peek 1/5th Northumbeland Fusiliers, his brother in-law Private No. 5540 1/7th Northumberland Fusiliers and their comrades. RIP

Additional: This plaque honours my wife's grandfather, his brother in-law and their comrades. It was featured in the Illustrated Chronicle almost 100 years ago. Because the original photo was so finger worn in the archives it was impossible to read the names, I made this digital enhancement to make it possible to read the names of these brave men of the missions 'Men's Holy Hour' Sadly the plaque no longer exists, the mission after surviving two world wars was sold in 1964. It was demolished about 2002 after the Distillex chemical plant explosion.
