Their mother, Alice Pitch (nee Middleton) had been widowed in 1907 and had also lost two other of her children, when babies, but she carried her grief with grace and was a beloved mother and later, grandmother

Description: A photo of the German Vienna Regulator wall clock that hung in his family's home at 56 Stowe Street, Lichfield.

Additional: Jim Pitch was badly wounded during the was and had to have one of his legs amputated. He was just 19-years-old. The German-inspired, carved wooden eagle, atop the family's wall clock was more than he could bear and he angrily tore it off the clock. Just over three years later, he slipped and fell onto the stump, it got infected and he died, aged just 23.
