Bertie in hospital blue's uniform.Bertie was moved from the Taunton Red Cross Hospital to the Bridgwater Infirmary on 25th January 2017. Bertie was classed as a Disabled War Pensioner and was discharged from the army on 16th April 2018.

Bertie's tobacco tin with bullet hole damage.Bertie was almost killed when the bullet hit the tobacco tin he was carrying in his breast pocket. It ricocheted off the tin just missing his heart and exited under his arm pit. He had put it in his pocket just moments before!Contributed by:
