This is the outer cover of my grandfather Alexander "Sandy" Rattray's 1918 "Soldiers Own Diary" where he maintained a daily record. The khaki outer cover was sown by him to protect the diary.

Mauser T-Gewehr Anti-tank Rifle Shells

Shows the Anti Tank Shells my Grandfather kept following the discovery of this weapon and its subsequent, by him and another soldier to prevent any further use by the Germans. The artile in the background shows Canadian soldiers & the crew of a RTC Mark V tank admire a captured Mauser T-Gewehr Anti-tank Rifle after the battle of Amiens August 1918.

Not Exactly sure which establishment this photo was taken at, my guess is Wall Hall Convalescent Home nr. St Albans. He had been taught the art of Needle Point while convalescing in Eastbourne following his first wounding. This looks like Royal Engineers Crest he is working on.

Wounded Mans Kit - Tag

This we think relates to his final wounding. 1. Bullet just missed his head bounced of his tin hat, took the top of his ear off & left a crease in the side of his head. Tended to at local Dressing station 2. Shrapnel Lower Leg - Marked for Blighty - Brighton Hospital, Convalescence in Eastbourne 3. Shrapnel Upper Thigh - Marked for Blighty - St Albans Hospital, Convalescence in Wall Hall

Lunch is a Tin!

Final Artifact we have in the family collection. The only other item we have all seen but have been unable to locate is a cross carved in Chalk from the trenches - and is in memory of his youngest sister, May, who died aged 3, 7th September 1913
