Description: Third Paragraph " In 1914 Albert joined the Essex regiment, who were billeted in Stamford and then transferred to the 2nd/4th Battalion Charlotte of Wales’s Royal Berkshire Regiment and was promoted to Corporal. He was injured during the Battle of Fromelles and died on July 20th 1916 aged 21. He was buried in Merville Communal Cemetery in France. He is remembered on the town memorial and Stamford School Memorial where he was a student."

Description: LAVENTIE Artillery preparation opened at 11am, attack at 6pm. 2/1 Bucks on our left, Australian Division of left of 2/1 Bucks, 183 Bde on our right & 182 Bde on right of 183 Bde. 8th & 61st Divisional Artillery behind our line. Casualties. Officers 3 killed (Lt Col J H Beer, 2/Lt G S Abbott & 2/Lt F C D Williams) & 2 wounded (Major T Shields & 2/Lt D R Gibson). Other ranks 35 k, 115 w & 8 shell shock. Bn relieved by 2/4 Oxford & Bucks L I at 10:30pm. Marched back into Billets at RUE DE LA LYS.
