Sgt Gwyn SilkPortrait taken in England. Date unknown. On the reverse is written 'Gwyn Silk. Died of wounds on the battlefield somewhere in France, October 26 1917 age 20 years 7 weeks. joined up August 13 1914. A lad who tarried not at all at the first sound of dutys call'. In fact, Gwyn, although seriously wounded, had been taken prisoner. The family learnt he was alive on Christmas Eve, 1917.

Gwyn (middle, back row) at Sgt's Camp.According to a note left by Gwyn's wife, this picture may have been taken at a Sgt's Camp, possibly in Ashford, Kent. Date is unknown. She added that Gwyn had said that he was the only one in this group picture to survive the war.Contributed by:
