Portrait photograph of E J V Collingwood-Thompson2 Lieutenant Edward James Vibart Collingwood-Thompson 2 Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers Lt Collingwood-Thompson gained a Prize Cadetship at Sandhurst which he did not take up, preferring Woolwich instead. He was commissioned in 3 Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers in September 1913 and, having been attached to 2 Battalion, accompanied it to the Western Front in August 1914. He was shot at the Battle of the Marne on 9 September 1914 and died of his wounds, aged 20, the following day at La Ferté-sous-Jouarre. He was the first officer of his battalion to fall. Lt Collingwood-Thompson is buried at Perreuse Chateau Franco British National Cemetery.
