Photograph of John Staple (back row 2nd from rightPhotograph probably taken in Thessalonika. The Allied Powers were supporting Serbia against an attack by Bulgaria with support from Germany and Austria-Hungry. John Staple was serving with the 43rd Remount Regiment which was responsible for providing pack horses and mules for transport purposes, essential in this mountainous country. Trench ArtBrass model of a biplane made from a rifle cartridge. Vertical tail fin/rudder is missing although there is a slot for it. Inscription on top wing reads: "Souvenir from Salonica 1917" with the initials "JS" (John Staple) underneath.Contributed by:

Trench ArtGerman artillery shell adapted to make a "Dinner Gong". Inscription reads "Souvenir JS Balkans 1915 - 19". On the base of the shell case it says "Rh.M.F. 1912" on one side at the 12 o'clock position and opposite at the 6 o'clock position "Dusseldorf" with "L at the 9 o'clock position and "4" at the 3 o'clock position. From its dimensions, it was probably from a 75cm weapon.Contributed by:
