"Bound volume containing 37 ms letters and cards to his family written during his service on the Western Front (August 1917 - March 1918) as a company commander in the 1/6th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders (152nd Brigade, 51st Division) and on attachment to the 404th Field Company, Royal Engineers (August - September 1917) giving brief details of conditions and containing various references to French agriculture; also miscellaneous correspondence received by his family after he was reported missing during the German spring offensive (March 1918), including a letter from the Red Cross dated 1 November 1918 confirming that he had died in a German field hospital at Beaulencourt in March 1918; together with a companion volume containing transcripts of his letters and much additional material later assembled by his family."
