William Charles Thirkettle (first left)Whilst the Rolls Royce Armoured Car has the 1/8th (Cyclist) Bn. Essex Regiment marked on it, which was the unit William enlisted in, the cap badges are Army Service Corp, to which William had been transferred no later than November 1915. According to the Army Logistics Corp Museum, as motor transport was introduced into the British Army, the crews were transferred to the Army Service Corp, but remained attached to their original unit.Contributed by:
