14470 Corporal Herbert L. THURGOODAugust 1917 – at No.9 Ampthill Command Depot (A.C.D.) seven men have been recognised for gallant and brave service at the Front. 14470 Corporal Herbert L. THURGOOD (2nd Bedfords) received the Military Medal on June 28, 1916 at Maricourt. During a patrol Corporal Thurgood encountered and challenged a German patrol. His men were out numbered and so took shelter in a shell hole and kept the enemy at bay. At night Corporal Thurgood made a personal reconnaissance and effected his patrol escaping through the encircling German line. [survived the war]
