Description: Quite a number of commissions in the army have been obtained by Kirkby soldiers. Among the latest to be gazetted is 2nd Lieut. L. Toon, of New Street, East Kirkby, who is posted to the Nth. Fusiliers. 2nd Lieut. Toon was formerly a Corporal in the South Staffs., and has seen service in France. His only brother, 2nd Lieut. H. Toon, was killed in the Somme Battle in July 1917.
