Harold Waddington,as a postman with a long career, was picked for the plum job of delivering mail at the Great Yorkshire Show in 1952. He had been given the job other years, but this particular year it reached the Harrogate Herald.

Sharp reporter found the next-door neighbours had been left Harold Waddington's home, he delved in, sought them out & interviewed them. They must have been put on the spot because they DID know he had a family, they mailed us family photographs. Will was from March 12, 1979, which was from when they "befriended" him, taking him meals & doing his laundry. They only had to wait 5 years to get £40,000. My father was very upset, he had not been informed and did not even get to the funeral. Only 5 people attended.

Probate, 1984

Probate settled in favour of Peter & Pamela Pearce. This is what the Yorkshire Post reporter investigated for his story. The house had been originally purchased by Mrs Hill's husband, who left it to her, she most likely left it to my grandfather. It is a mystery what happened to the money he got from the sale of his home in 1970, there is no mention of money in the bank. He only spent his basic needs, so he could not have spent so much money himself.
