Title: Francis Purcell Warren

Description: Francis Purcell Warren (as his published works usually credit him) was born in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire on May 29, 1895, the son of a local musician and conductor, Walter Warren. In March, 1910, he obtained a scholarship to study violin at the Royal College of Music . In September 1914, he enlisted as a private in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, and went to France in the following March. Shortly afterwards he returned to England and joined the 10th Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment. In March 1916 Warren obtained a commission as a Second Lieutenant and was posted to France. He was reported missing at Mons on July 3, 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. His body was not recovered, but he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
