An image of the third page of the diary written by Walter Gilmour (Hampshire Regiment Service no 4/2924) which mentions his "pal Mr Watmore" who joined up with him in the 2/7th Hampshire Regiment in December 1914.

Walter Gilmour (Service# 4/2924) sent his final postcard home on 15th January 1916. Walter Gilmour and Walter Watmore were friends from Winchester who jouned up together. Walter G. wrote a diary and referred to Walter W. as 'uncle' throughout, even though they weren't related. 'Uncle' on the postcard is therefore Walter Watmore, 'Ethel' could possibly be his future wife Ethel Munt, who he married in 1919. Frank is Frank Gilmour (Service# 201116), Walter's brother. They were all in the 1/4th Hampshire Regiment and at this time preparing for the Battle of Hanna which took place in atrocious conditions on 21st January 1916, Walter died of wounds on 24th January, 9 days after sending this postcard. Postcard sent to Miss E. Rogers 19 St Peter Street Winchester. "Alls well Please tell Ethel & 36. Uncle, Myself, Frank Sunday Jan 15 .16"
