Title: LOCAL WAR CASUALTIES Swinefleet Brothers: One Killed, One Wounded

Description: Mr and Mrs G West, High Street, Swinefleet, have been officially notified of the death of their son Pte A West, of the Essex Regiment, who was killed in action, in France, on October 13th. Prior to enlisting on May 22nd he was employed as Farm Servant at Mr Holdridge's, Goole Fields. News has also been received that another son, Private G West, of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment is in hospital in France, suffering from shell shock. Before enlisting he was a Farm Servant at Mr J Thompson's, Goole Fields. Mr and Mrs West have another son - Gunner W West, - in the heavy artillery in Salonika, who has been serving since November 1914. Prior to enlisting he was employed by Mr Broadbent, Swinefleet. A memorial service will be held at the Primitive Chapel, Swinefleet for Private West on Sunday evening next.

Title: Swinefleet Memorial Service

Description: On Sunday evening a large congregation assembled at the Primitive Methodist Chapel to express their sympathy with the family of the late Pte Arthur West, who was killed in action on October 13. The deceased was a member of the Sunday School and a regular attendant at the Chapel till he joined the Army. He attended a service only six or seven weeks ago when on leave. The Rev. F W Wilkinson preached a very appropriate sermon and expressed the deep sympathy of the church and congregation with the bereaved family. Suitable hymns were sung, including "Peace, perfect peace". Mr Hinsley presided at the organ. Sympathy was also expressed with the deceased's soldier brother, who is in hospital and prayer offered for his speedy recovery.

Description: It was announced a short while ago in this paper that official information had been received stating that Private A West, son of Mr G West, High Street, Swinefleet, had been killed in action. Since then a letter has been received from his officer, stating that Private A West was killed by a machine gun bullet on 18th Oct. during the attack on Courcelles.
