The Butt in Polygon Wood.The photograph of the Butt in Polygon Wood was taken on 11th of October 1917. It was a position well known to the Manchester's battalions in the 7th Division, a number of battalion HQ's being dug into the reverse slops. Today, the bodies of two Manchester battalion commanders are buried in the magnificent cemetery which was constructed below the butt, (Lt Col, D R. Turnball, Kia 1st of October 1917 and Major C Kemp DOW 9th of October 1917)
