Lives of the First World War

Sir Thomas Owen Marden KBE, CB, CMG (15 September 1866 – 11 September 1951) was a British Army officer, active during the Boer War and the First World War, where he commanded a battalion of the Welch Regiment, a brigade, and finally 6th Division. Following the war, he commanded a British occupying force in Turkey during the Chanak Crisis in the early 1920s.

Lieutenant-Colonel T O Marden, CMG, 1st Welsh Regiment, has been appointed Brigadier-General. General Marden was at the school from 1879 to 1885, for the last three years of which he was a prefect. He was captain of cricket and football, sports champion, and a member of the Editorial Staff of the BERKHAMSTEDIAN. He passed tenth into the RMC, Sandhurst, and was fourth on the passing-out list with prize for Fortification. He was gazetted to the Cheshire Regiment, passed to the Staff College, and held several staff appointments at the War Office and in South Africa. He commanded the 1st Battalion, Welsh Regiment from 1912. He has seen active service in Burma and South Africa.
