Description: Trooper Edwin BOOTH. 1st Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles. Killed in action on 5th June 1916 aged 30 during the Battle of Mount Sorrel, in Belgium. Lieutenant Charles BOOTH. Royal Naval Reserve of HMS Hazel. Died of influenza at Mudros in Salonika on 13th December 1918 aged 28. Flight Sub-Lieutenant Frank BOOTH. Royal Naval Air Service. Died of wounds on 3rd January 1918 near Lille in France after landing his aircraft while injured. Charles, Edwin and Frank BOOTH were brothers and the three sons of Edwin Charles and Florence Booth of ‘Rainow’, Nantwich Road, Wistaston, Crewe.

Title: Web forum re circumstances of Edwin Booth's death at Sanctuary Wood, 2-5 June 1916

Description: 'On the morning of June 02, mines were blown under the 1st and 4th CMR lines. The two battalions were virtually wiped out. On June 03, the War Diary referred to the single officer and 135 OR's remaining as "survivors. They were led out to a rest camp by two lieutenants who happened to be returning from leave. A Muster Parade was held on June 07, and Casualty Lists made up following that. The reason, then, for the apparent discrepancy of dates is that no-one is really sure what the casualties were - by date - between June 02 and June 05. So, almost all are shown by the date they were reported, which was June 05.'
