Title: Obituary of Richard Brendan Buchanan

Description: Second Lieutenant R. B. Buchanan was a member of the Officers' Training Corps, and entered Edinburgh University Medical School in 1911. He had passed all his examinations—except his final —with first class honours, gaining medals in zoology, practical anatomy, and surgery. On the outbreak of war, he at once applied for a commission and was gazetted to a Lieutenancy in the Royal Army Medical Corps, Special Reserve. Finding he could not be permitted to go on active service until he completed his medical course, he applied for a transfer to the Royal Scots Fusiliers, and was gazetted to the 5th Battalion, which landed at the Dardanelles on the 30th and almost immediately proceeded to the trenches. His elder brother in the Royal Engineers (E. J. B. Buchanan—also an O.B.) is serving with the Indian Expeditionary Force.—[Communicated."]
