Title: Obituary of Maurice Burnett

Description: Captain Maurice Burnett went from Bedford Grammar School to St. George's Hospital, where he became Senior House Physician, being seconded from the service to take up the appointment. He passed in fifth on the list for the Royal Army Medical Corps in January, 1912. He was killed in action at Shaiba, Persia, whilst in medical charge of the 2nd Norfolk Regiment. Captain Burnett was the youngest son of Surgeon- General and Mrs. Burnett, of Cambridge Gardens, Richmond Hill, S.W. His two elder brothers, Captain R. F. D. Burnett, 42nd Deoli Regiment, and Lieut. L. C. Burnett, R.N., and his brother- in-law, Major H. K. Wingate, the Royal Scots, all old Grammar School boys, are serving at the front.—[Communicated.']

Description: The following further particulars have been communicated concerning Captain Burnett, R.A.M.C, an obituary notice of whom appeared in Ousel No. 468. Captain Burnett was mentioned in General Sir J. Nixon's despatches from the Persian Gulf 'for conspicuous courage, attending to the wounded in the open and in the firing line under very heavy fire, where his work necessitated his being much exposed. He lost his life in the firing line doing so, and his work was beyond praise.'
