The Battle for Manchester Hill.Overwhelming concentrations of German troops were assembled in St Quentin prior to the attack on the morning of the 21st of March 1918. On that morning the superiority of the German artillery and the fortuitous intervention of a dense spring mist meant that their advance was relatively unhindered by the British defence whose plans were thrown into disarray.Contributed by:

Prisoners of War.A column of British troops marching eastwards. The interminable length of the column and the obvious relieve of many of the men's faces now that they are Prisoners of War gives a clear idea of the initial success of the Germans assault. The photograph was probably taken in St. Quentin on the afternoon of the 21st of March 1918.Contributed by:
