Title: Obituary of Allan Armstrong

Description: Lieutenant-Colonel Allan Armstrong, D.S.O., Wiltshire Regiment, died on September 19th of wounds received in action, aged 43. He was the son of the late J. S. Armstrong, Bengal Civil Service, and Mrs. Armstrong, and was educated at Bedford School and Sandhurst, joining the Wiltshire Regiment, in which he served for 13 years in India and at home. In 1910 he qualified for the Staff College, but retired to take up a position with the firm of engineers, Messrs. J. Stone and Co., Ltd., London. In the same year he was appointed Second in Command of the Wiltshire County Territorial Battalion. He was serving in this capacity at the outbreak of the war, and left for India with his battalion in October, 1914. In 1915 he succeeded the Earl of Radnor in the command of the battalion. He took the battalion to Egypt in 1917, and was in action at Gaza and during the advance to Jerusalem, and for his services received the D.S.O.reproduced from The Times and by permission of Bedford School.
