Description: BIRMINGHAM AVIATOR KILLED Official news has been received of the death of Second-Lieut Archibald Stanley Butler, of the Royal Flying Corps, the third son of the late Mr Charles D Butler of Gillott Road Edgbaston. He was 26 years of age and was educated st Magdalen College Oxford. At the time war broke out he was living in Rotten Park Road and was employed by the Royal Exchange Company; he was then a corporal in the Warwickshire Yeomanry, and obtained a commission in the Howitzer Brigade. From there he was transferred to the Royal Flying Corps as a pilot. He was killed when acting as a member of a bombing patrol; his machine was apparently caught in a cloud, and , executing a "spinning nose dive" crashed into a wood. When he was picked up he was unconscious, and died soon afterwards. Lieutenant Butler was one of four brothers serving with the colours.
