Harold was killed while asleep in a machine gun dug out. His Lieutenant said that his death must have been instantaneous and painless.

Originally buried at Caldron Military Cemetery (Red Mill), in the Southern part of the town of Lieven. In March 1925 Harold's body was relocated in Loos British Cemetery Plot 19, Row D, Grave 17.
