Capt Smith married Edith Strawbridge in 1885 in Liverpool, and they had three sons and two daughters. He served in the RNR, and in WW1 was Commander of Caronia and Captain of Aquitania. He was mentioned in dispatches and created CBE in 1919. He died 17 Nov. 1928, when his address was 106 Mortlake Road, Kew Gardens, Surrey
