Private Stead had no known grave following the Battle of Fromelles in 1916, but excavations in 2009 and subsequent DNA testing ascertained his identity. Re-buried during 2010.

Private Joseph Raymond Stead of the AIF.Private Stead served with the Australian Infantry in France and fell there on 19th July 1916. Now re-buried at Pheasant Wood Military Cemetery, France.
