Description: The IWM collection includes three ms diaries with transcription relating to two Lena Ashwell concert parties he took part in in France as a professional musician during the First World War between 9 July and 12 August and 3 and 31 December 1917; including descriptions of air raids, his passage to France, the feelings at passing British cemeteries, performing concerts for the troops, visiting field hospitals, the excellent treatment the performers received from soldiers and Commanding Officers, entertaining the relatives of the wounded soldiers, and the importance of concerts for morale; also included are newspaper clippings and accounts of performances with transcriptions, his return train ticket to Boulogne, his British passport, a photograph of him performing playing the banjo, a script (27pp) for lecture entitled 'Concerts at the Front', and copies of his CV and biographical details.
