Delville Wood Oberlisk.The inscription reads: Here is a shallow trench stood the battle headquarters of the South African Infantry during the fighting in Delville Wood. Paths and trenches to the rear lead to the west and southwest of wood.Contributed by:

Nancy The Mascot.'Nancy' the 4th Regiment mascot. the springbok 'Nancy' was presented to the Regiment in August 1915 by Mr D M'Laren Kennedy of Driefontein, Orange Free State. She accompanied the 4th to Egypt, and thence to France, where she was with the Brigade in all its battles. She was wounded in 1917. She died at Hermeton, in Belgium, on the 28th of November 1918.Contributed by:

Delville Wood.The remains of Delville Wood after the battle had moved on. It is still possible to see the roots and undergrowth which made digging trenches and shelters very difficult.Contributed by:
