Soldiers at Ashridge Auxiliary Hospital during WW1During the First World War, Ashridge House near Berkhamsted, Herts was used as an auxiliary hospital and convalescent home for troops. This was controlled by St Albans Hospital and mainly staffed by the Red Cross. The photo shows convalescent soldiers relaxing on the grass outside the front of the House.

The remains of Angel Wheatley's Cross2019 photo of the remains of Angel Wheatley's cross, made by carpenter Harry Temple to mark her grave. Now extremely weathered and partly hidden by a low hedge around the plot, the lettering cut into the wood: "V.A.D. Herts 16.A. 1914 - 1918" is still visible. The place where her nurse's badge was inset can still be seen, but the badge itself is long gone.Contributed by:
