Wounded by shell in the front line, about 5pm he was brought and died in 45 CCS in the early hours of 11 March. He was buried with full military honours in Aveluy Cem at 5.45pm.

WO 95/2029/2 War Diary 8 Bn Royal Sussex RegtExtract from diary 10 Mar 17 - Lt Col AA Chase DSO severely wounded by shell when in the front line, about 5pm he was brought and died in 45 CCS in the early hours of 11 March.
