HeadstoneNo Merry Christmas 1916 for Pte Christopher Charles Christmas! Christopher was called up for military service and joined the Royal Fusiliers, . After his basic training he was transferred to the 113th Company of the Machine Gun Corps (MGC = Machine Gun Corps), while he studied at the MGC, he was transferred to France with his unit. The 113th Machine Gun Company was added on May 19, 1916 at the 113th Brigade of the 38th (Welsh) Division. In July 1916 they came in action at Mametz Wood (Somme) with serious losses for the unit. After the battles of the Somme, the division was sent to a supposedly quieter place. In December 1916 Christopher 's company was at the forefront of the Ypres Salient, during which period it was relatively quiet at the Ypres front. Surely the relative tranquility offered no guarantees, because the 20-year-old Christopher Christmas died on December 2, 1916 near Boezinge. 23 days before Christmas. In the register we read that "he was killed in action" it was still
