    This card was amongst various items pertaining to Joe Clarke. I presume some kind of service was held for him and flowers laid.

  • Front cover of photograph booklet.
    This little book contained many photographs of the cemetary. This was the only connection Pte.Joe Clarke had with his family after his death as his relatives hadn't the means to vist his burial place in Belgium. Joe Clarke was wounded in France and transferred to a hospital in Belgium where he died. I presume the 'souvenir ' booklet was purchased by post.

    This was one of many photographs in the little booklet showing the Llyssenthoek British Military Cemetery.

  • Pte. Joe Clarke's grave.
    This is the final resting place of Pte.Joe Clarke. No one from his immediate family were able to visit it. These photographs were the only connection they were able to have with his grave. The photographer was J.Souillard of Peronne (Somme) in France.

  • Joe Clarke in his army uniform.
    This photograph was taken, presumably by a French photographer, shortly after he joined the Signals. The Signals insignia is clearly seen on his left sleeve. The photograph was taken after the sixth of March, 1917 when he joined the Signals. It was possibly taken in Noyelles sous Lens where he spent a few days rest.
