Transcription: Name: Albert Askew. Address: 26 Kenmure Place, Preston. Occupation: Chauffeur. Regiment: 4th Loyal North Lancs Regt. Rank and Regimental Number: Corporal 2244. Date of Death: September 9th 1916 Age 25. Place where where killed or injury received: France. Remarks:- Killed in action.

Serving with the 1/4th Loyal North Lancashires.Compatriot Bill Tilsley, in his book entitled Other Ranks gives a first hand account of what it was like for those he served alongside in the 1/4th Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Published late (1931) it has since become both rare and valued as a tribute to the sacrifice of a generation of Other Ranks.
