Private David Cooper
In the uniform of the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers.
David served with 2nd Battlion Royal Fusiliers, he joined up in 1915 and first saw action in the ill fated Gallipoli Campaign. The Battalion were then sent to fight on the Western Front in France and on July 1st 1916 were in the trenches near Beaumont Hamel opposite where the giant mine was exploded beneath Hawthorn Ridge. On October 27th of that year, after spells in the line around Ypres, the Battlalion were sheltering in Trones Wood when they came under heavy shell fire, they decided to move to the relative safety of Delville Wood but unfortunately David was killed before that could happen. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
