Rifleman John McGowan Wounded. Had a wonderful escape as a bomb exploded beside him but the spade on his back protected him from being mortally wounded. Serving with Kings Royal Rifles. Resident of Queen Street. His brother Pt James McGowan serving with the Royal Fusiliers is in hospital with shrapnel in his lung, his other brother Pt Francis McGowan was killed in 1915
